More carriageway resurfacing in the Village Area starting 27 Feb

Southwark Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing at the Red Post Hill, East Dulwich Grove and Village Way junction starting on 27 February 2013.  These are expected to last until 5 March 2013.

To undertake the works safely and to reduce disruption to traffic flows and pedestrian foot flow, these carriageway works  will be implemented during the nights (Monday – Friday, 20.00hours – 05.00hours) when traffic and pedestrian volumes are reduced.  Very noisy works will take place before 24.00 hours.

Colin

Hi Peter,

Please see e mail below from Cllr Robin Crookshank Hilton. I think following noise mitigate measure are in place prior to obtain section 61 control pollution act to work outside agreed hours for East Dulwich Grove Jw Red Post Hill work;

All Breaks out around iron work will be carried out using a w350 planer, to minimise noise and duration.
·         All milling will be completed by mid night; we anticipate all works to be completed by approx 1 to 2am.
·         All plant and transport will have white sound reversing aid.

Can you please look into following issues raised in e mail below and feedback to me?

Regards
Himanshu

Hi… just to let you know that someone stopped me in the Village today to complain about the noise that the lorries are making during the building works, so I said that I’d pass it along just in case there is anything that can be done.

Apparently the beeping noise while the lorries are reversing can be heard all the way down to the junction with Dul Vil and Gilkes Place… and the works seem to be going on way past midnight.

I know the reversing beeping is a Health & Safety requirement, but is there anyway that it can be turned down?? Apparently the motor noises aren’t that bad, but the beeping is unbearable…

  1. Resurfacing works at night-ok- disturbing sleep but bearable as presumably less disruptive than day time – but can’t the beeping of (presumably) reversing vehicles be silenced between midnight and 7am? If the carriageway is closed for the works why do the vehicles have to sound the reverse beep incessantly? I live at the village end of Turney and it’s driving me mad. Goodness knows what it’s like for residents who live closer! Councillor s- please ask the contractors to sort

  2. Thanks for the comment, Jane. I have sent it straight off to Cllrs Crookshank & Eckersley and asked them to see what they can get done about the noise and to let us know asap.
