Local residents have been concerned for some time about the safety of Dulwich Village roundabout esp with regard to the junctions with Burbage Road and Gallery Road. There have been a number of incidents and near misses on the roundabout, and there are concerns for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. At last some action seems likely as funding for a pedestrian island has been secured. Southwark Council has painted some white lines on Burbage Road to show two possible locations for a new pedestrian island (see below). They have now gone away to investigate the technical feasibility of each option and all being well intend to conduct a formal local consultation in October-November with the results being reported back to the Dulwich Community Council for a decision. In the meantime, take a look at the outlines at the junction. There would have to be some loss of parking places to accommodate the crossings and sightlines as well as additional tactile pavement. If residents have any feedback, please pass on to Burbage Road or Turney Road chairs or comment below.
Option 1 Crossing – offset a few metres from the junction with the roundabout
Option 2 – on the crossing near the junction with roundabout
