Latest developments on the S G Smith planning application in Dulwich Village – new consultation and new community petition.

Southwark Council has decided to do a re-consultation in view of the number of changes to the application and new documents on the proposed underground car park and basement excavation in the heart of Dulwich Village.

The new consultation runs from 14th June to 27th June 2015, and all are welcome to respond.  The application form, drawings, supporting documents and other comments received in respect of this application can be viewed at and search for application 14/AP/3104.  There are two options for comments:

1. Email Dipesh Patel (the planning officer) at

2. Post a comment on-line via “Make a Public Comment” button

The application has now been amended with the following changes:

The description has been amended to refer to the existing use as B2 (general industrial) rather than B1(light industry)

Amended drawings have been submitted

The following additional/amended documents have been submitted:

Arboricultural Report (Tree survey and assessment)

Basement Impact Assessment (Revised)

Daylight and Sunlight Assessment (shadow diagrams and letter)

Draft outline construction management plan

Flood Risk Assessment

Planning Heritage Impact Statement (which includes details of a proposal to the Grade II Listed Stone Plaque

(see listed building consent application 15/AP/1772)).

Planning Statement Addendum (to include the impact on the Grade II Listed St Barnabas Parish Hall)

In addition, the parents and Safe Routes Governor at Dulwich Hamlet School have opened a new road safety petition for the community to help publicise concerns about road safety and congestion at the site if the basement excavation goes ahead.  Below is their message to the community:

Dear local residents, Residents’ Associations,

Please help us object to the SG Smith (Audi garage) redevelopment in the middle of Dulwich Village.

Whilst it makes sense to develop the site we believe the scale of the current plans (including the massive excavation) is excessive – 2,000 multi-axle HGV dumper truck journeys just to build the basement. It’ll cause an enormous amount of noise and congestion as well as putting our kids at risk.

Andy Skipwith (local Dad / Safe Routes rep) has launched a petition. Please sign and help raise awareness by using Facebook / Twitter – there’s a quick link on the petition itself. Also please do forward on to your own local friends and any neighbours I’ve missed.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Andy Skipwith
